Heartstopper is a heartwarming graphic novel series aimed at teens and young adults. Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson have never met until they are put sitting next to each other in class. Charlie – openly gay and highly-strung – is soon falling head over heels for Nick, a rugby lad who Charlie’s friends say is the straightest person they’ve ever seen. Charlie is content to settle for being friends, but the two boys soon find out that love and friendship are never straight forward.
As someone who had never read a graphic novel before I wasn’t sure how I’d find it, but the story just wouldn’t be the same without Oseman’s beautifully simple illustrations.
A warm and comforting read for teens and adults alike (with three more volumes and a Netflix show for when you finish and find yourself wanting more!)
